Cervical Cancer Vaccination

Cervical Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death for women in the Philippines. Everyday, almost 12 Filipino women die of cervical cancer. The scary thing is it often has no signs or symptoms. More than half of those diagnosed with cancer die in 5 years.

Every women is at risk.

Cervical Cancer is caused by a virus known as HPV - Human Papilloma Virus.  It can be easily transmitted. It can occur even in women who never had sexual intercourse in their life.

The good news is It can be prevented. There's now a vaccine that can protect us from the disease.

It's a bit pricey compared to other type of vaccines, but its worth it. It costs around 4,500 pesos for 3 shots. I just had my second shot last night. You may experience a little pain and swelling in the injection site although not everybody will feel it. Aside from those short-term effects, there have been no reports that Cervarix vaccine is associated with any serious risks.
